Magazine Cover Title

We wanted to create a similar title to Empire in terms of style because we liked the boldness and clearness of it across the page. For this, we wanted to use bright but an uncomplicated colour scheme.

However, we also liked the banner style of 'Sight & Sound' Magazine and wanted to incorporate this within our title.

This is our final design:

Filming Diary

On 26th of January, we went up to Crystal Palace to film our final scene of Isaac and Grace, and take photographs for our poster. We arrived at the house where Thea and George were, and started by filming them on fake grass inside, because the weather was awful and the lighting outside was too grey. We then filmed the part where Grace is holding Isaac's head in frustration. We had to make sure their mouths fit the voice overs we had previously recorded so it looked like it was them speaking.
We then took photographs for our posters of them lying on the floor. We did not need to have them lying on actual grass because we plan to use photoshop to put the image over another picture of grass we will take when the weather improves.

Photo Shoot Diary

Jan 25th 2014

We drove to Saskia's house in Camberwell where Thea and George were, as they had come back from Uni in Sussex for Saskia's birthday and so that we could photograph them for our poster and magazine.

The weather was the opposite of what we wanted - rain and grey skies. This was inconvenient because we were intending to take photographs of Thea and George outside lying on the grass in Saskia's garden. Luckily, Willa had a patch of fake grass in her garden so we used this and ended up taking the photographs of them lying on the grass inside instead of outside, later we will manipulate this using Adobe Photoshop by editing the lighting and balance of the photo. If the grass does not look real enough in the photo when we put it on our poster, we will cut out Thea and George using the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop, and paste them onto a background of a photograph of real grass.

We needed to do some filming because we had some parts of our trailer was missing and did not fit the voiceover script. We started by filming them on fake grass inside, because the weather was awful and the lighting outside was too grey. We then filmed the part where Grace is holding Isaac's head in frustration. We had to make sure their mouths fit the voice overs we had previously recorded so it looked like it was them speaking.

After taking photos of them lying on the ground in Saskia's living room, we took ones of them closer up, with Thea looking frustrated with George, to convey the feeling that the relationship was going downhill which we may want for our poster or magazine.

We used a range of styles, on Willa's camera we had the ability to add filters to the photos as we were taking them, and tried some in black and white and some in colour.

These are some samples of the photographs we took yesterday. The colour has worked better than black and white as a big image, so we will most likely use the coloured photographs for our poster which will contain a large image, and the black and white ones for our magazine cover, which will use lots of smaller images. We can of course edit the coloured photos to be black and white if we need to.

This is a video of the photographs we took at our photoshoot for the magazine cover and poster. Some of them are in black and white whereas some are in colour. They were ordered in preparation for the editing for the cover and poster.

Filming Diary Entry 2

This weeks filming was very successful. Due to our planning ahead, we managed to complete all the shots we had prepared for and in style of what we wanted.

We started the filming with the shots 5 and 6, showing the couple at university. We had sent a message out to ask for people to come and be extras in the filming, and lots of people turned up. This was very pleasing and helpful as it made our scene look very realistic but also meant that we could place people around our two main actors so that it didn't look strange and too obvious who the focus was meant to be on.

Our next part of filming was in Costa where the couple were meant to be having a date. This was also very realistic and relaxed as our actors are already together, so we told them to act natural and just moved our shots around them according to the shot list. Luckily we had time to do this before the end of school so there were not hundreds of people milling around, but there were enough to make it look realistic.

Finally, we filmed in the library, doing shots 8-11. This was slightly problematic as the shot required us to move the camera along with the actors through the bookcase but the bookcase was slightly lower than the height of our actors, so they had to crouch making it quite bumpy. However, after a number of tries, we finally managed to make it run smoothly.

Final Tagline

Final Tagline

Because we want to start making our graphics, we needed to decide on a tagline. For final inspiration we looked up famous quotes about love and stumbled upon Leonardo Da Vinci's quote:

'Life without love is no life at all'

We then began to edit it to make it less dramatic and obviously not a direct quote. However, looking through our shotlist, it was clear that we would have to split it into 3 parts, as our working tagline was 3 parts and split up the shots well. We have finally decided on:

'There is no life worth living / if without / the one you love'

Ident Construction

Today I worked with the Motion package to create the ident. However, after working through the generators and playing around with them, I found a more interesting way to form the letter of the ident through swirls which could form an 'O':

I changed the colour of the swirls to make it look more professional so that it changed with the ident. I then wanted to create a matching colour scheme so I planned to make the title of the production company that same colour of the final 'O' and then incorporate possibly the white and lighter blues in other ways.
However, before I created the title, we needed to find a new title for our production company as we needed to fit it to the 'O'. We therefore looked up words that began with 'O' and were related to visual effects. We finally decided to use 'Oculus' which means an eye or round dome, and titled our production company 'Oculus Productions.'

I added movement to the title as well as the swirls so that the 'Oculus' appeared as soon as the swirls formed the 'O', and then added 'Productions' as a later flash underneath the main title. Like many other idents, I chose to keep the title frozen for a couple of seconds so that the title of the company was clear.
